Here, is a list of five abandoned places on the face of earth that were claimed and beautified by the nature.


#5. Six Flags New Orleans

Currently owned by the Industrial Development Board (I.D.B.) of New Orleans, Six Flags New Orleans is an abandoned theme park, spread on a 140-acre land in New Orleans. Although, trespassing is prohibited, thrill seekers always have found a way in and hence pictures were made available to us. Opened in 2000, the theme park was short lived and fell apart by flooding during the Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. The park was leased by Six Flags and the lease terminated in 2009 during its bankruptcy proceedings. The city generates money for itself by leasing the park on-and-off as a filming location to various production companies.


#4. Constanța Casino

Designated by the Romanian Ministry of Cultural and National Patrimony as a historic monument, Constanța Casino is an inoperative, abandoned casino in Constanța, Romania. This casino holds an excellent piece of Constanța's history. The casino is on the Constanța seafront at 2 Elisabeta Boulevard along the Black Sea in the historic Peninsulă District of the city. The casino was built three times, the recent and modern one being built in Art Nouveau style, designed and built according to the plans of Daniel Renard and inaugurated in August 1910. It operated for 38 years, with interruption due to the two world wars, attacked and bombed by Bulgarian and German troops in World War I, and ravaged in World War II. In 1948, it was taken over by the Communist Party and finally in the year 1960, it was handed to the National Office of Tourism.


#3. Southwest Detroit Hospital

Opened in 1974 as the first Detroit hospital to hire and accredit African American doctors and nurses, which was uncommon in the United States at that time, Southwest Detroit Hospital was a hospital located in the Mexicantown neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. The original hospital was only in existence for 16 years. It declared itself bankrupt and closed down in 1991. In 1997, the hospital reopened as United Community Hospital; however, due to financial struggles, the hospital closed again in January 2006. Since then, the building has been abandoned, with various redevelopment plans falling through over the years.


#2. Quinta da Regaleira

Classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO within the "Cultural Landscape of Sintra, Portugal", Quinta da Regaleira is considered one of the principal tourist attractions of Sintra. The property consists of a Romantic palace and chapel, and a luxurious park that features lakes, grottoes, wells, benches, fountains, and a vast array of exquisite constructions. The palace is also known as "The Palace of Monteiro the Millionaire", which is based on the nickname of its best known former owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro. The palace was designed by the Italian architect Luigi Manini.


#1. Church of Saint-Étienne-le-Vieux

Located in the old city of Caen, Calvados, France, The Church of Saint-Étienne-le-Vieux ("Old Saint Stephen's") is a former Roman Catholic church, today partly ruined. It is not to be confused with the nearby Church of Saint-Étienne, the former church of the Abbaye aux Hommes. This church has been classified as a monument historique since August 22, 1903.
